What a day! Ken and got up and started getting ready for my Dr. appointment. The whole process with saran wrap, well I have described it before so I won't again. We went out to eat breakfast with the walker that just gets in the way, but it wasn't horrible. Then we drove to the city knowing we were a bit early. We took care of that with a quick stop at Panera Bread for cinnamon crisp bagels (my favorite) and a quick run into Petsmart for toys for the big red dog, Rusty.
I am so glad we made it to the Dr.'s office on time or we couldn't of enjoyed the hour and a half wait in the waiting room full of patients. But t was worth it in the end. We got back to a room and a man came in and asked me to pull up my pant leg so he could take out the staples. I told him I didn't think he could get to my incision from there since it was my hip and not my knee. He quickly left and the nurse came in. She had me stand and pull my pants down off that hip and she took all the tape and bandage off (ouch!), took out the staples, and put lots of steri-strips on my incision. Oh, it already felt better!
Then the PA came in and wanted to see the incision. He was very pleased at how it is healing. He went over some precautions and answered a few questions. Then the Dr. came in. He took me off a pill I take 2 times a day an anti-inflammatory, said I could stop using the walker when I was ready, I only have to wear the hose for another week and a half on the right leg during the day, I can shower but no bath or swimming for 4 weeks, and he gave me a note to return to school. Yaahoo! Then I wanted to confirm the big question when can I drive? He said when I could walk 100 yards. Okay. Thinking strange, but okay. He explained if I were in a wreck that would get me far enough away to be safe or get help. Hmm! The most important thing I can do is walk. Laura I am ready, call me.
I really feel such relief! I am so happy all the exercises, attitude, and perseverance has paid off.
On the other hand, I called the cancer center and they still didn't have authorization for me to take the herceptin. Bummer! I am confident it will get worked out early next week. So we went out to eat to celebrate. What a great Dr. visit! Maybe Ken will start to relax a bit and stop all his worrying.
Shortly after we got home Debbie called to see if she could bring over dinner. She was surprised that I walked to the door without any help. Dinner came from Laura F., Angie, Kena, and Karri. Thanks girls. It was just what we needed. Debbie and I talked. She said that Rebecca, who is making it possible to be gone without worrying (so much), said I better not have any more body parts go bad this year! Ha Ha! Thank you so much Rebecca. By then I was pretty tired. I sat down and did a little hand embroidery, but was soon too tired. So I feel asleep watching TV. I ate way to much greasy food at lunch and it caught up to me and I battled stomach problems all night. It is better this morning.
I need to get ready for a wedding shower for Nicole and Kevin. I am so pleased for them and glad that she is joining our family.
